how do you remove a folder from itunes library

If you rely on your MacBook to play audio files in your business, you may decide that you want to delete its iTunes library. For example, you might use the MacBook to play business-oriented podcasts on topics such as accounting or management principles, or perhaps you just listen to music while processing invoices. Details about these audio files are stored in the library. The iTunes library file is simply a database listing all the audio files you are listening to with iTunes. The library keeps track of how often you play each audio file and the ratings you assign them. If the iTunes library is corrupted, or if you simply want to start over with an empty library containing no ratings or other information, you can easily delete your iTunes library. You can also quickly delete the audio files themselves from your MacBook.

Option 2 worked great. I had doubles and triples in my library before I did this. Now I am clean with just what I actually have in ITunes. Apple really should make it easier to remove a folder or drive from the Library but your method worked.

I have the same problem and it drives me crazy too. There are thausends of useless songs in my library because I can not delete/remove the folders in the library setting. Am I stupid or is the remove button missing? Even a new installation of djay pro does not solve the problem.

If the external drive you wish to move it to is already empty, click and drag the iTunes folder from the Finder window directly onto the icon for the external drive. Alternatively, copy the iTunes folder, navigate to the place in the external drive you want to use to store iTunes in a separate Finder window, then paste.

At this point, iTunes will open up from the new location, and will be accessing files from the external storage instead of the Mac's storage. If you are unsure, you can check the path again by going to Preferences in the iTunes Menu Bar, selecting Advanced, and reading the iTunes Media folder location.

Once the iTunes library is confirmed to be working on the external drive, and possibly backed up too, you now have the option of deleting the initial iTunes library from the Mac to save space. Navigate to the original iTunes folder, and either drag it to the Trash or right-click the folder and select Move to Trash.

When you install and set up iTunes for the first time, the software automatically chooses a location to house your library. By default, that location is C:\users\[username]\ Music\iTunes. That folder stores the iTunes library file, which is a database of all your iTunes content, along with other files.

Why go through the trouble of moving your library to a network drive or NAS device? Well, a computer that houses your iTunes library needs to be turned on any time you want to access the content from a different device.

The location should say: I:\iTunes\iTunes Media (assuming you used "I" as the drive letter for mapping). Then check the two options for "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library." Click OK to close the Preferences window.

iTunes opens and should display the content from your music folder or whatever folder you last accessed. Select the other types of content from the menu, such as movies, TV shows, and books, to make sure the thumbnail images for those items display in iTunes. You should also try playing some music, movies, or TV shows to ensure that they play properly.

When you're satisfied that all your content files now reside on the network and that iTunes is pointing to them, you can delete the old iTunes folder on your computer. From now on, any time you open iTunes, the software will access your files from the network.

If you're a Windows 7 or 8.1 holdout, you can transfer files from one computer to another through HomeGroup. Once both computers are linked, open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Users\[username]\Music folder. Select and copy the iTunes folder, then click the entry for HomeGroup, the entry for your username, and the entry for the target computer.

You should see all the shared folders of the target computer, including the Music folder. Open the Music folder and paste the iTunes folder from the source to the target PC. Take a nice, long break as the copy is likely to take awhile.

HomeGroup is not available in Windows 10, so those with that OS (and Mac users) will have to find an alternative method to copy files between two different machines. You can copy them from the source PC to an external device, then copy them over to the target computer. Another option is to use a USB cable to connect both computers and copy the files over. If your library isn't too large, you can always copy it to and from an online file storage site such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, or Box.

Step 1: Make sure the following two settings boxes are checked:Go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced->Select: Keep iTunes media folder organized->Select: Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library

To promote a playlist folder from subfolder to folder, simply drag the folder towards the left, and release once the cursor changes appearance. To move a subfolder to another folder, simply drag the subfolder and drop it above the destination folder. The subfolders or regular playlist folders you promote, demote, or move around can contain songs and other playlist material: unless you explicitly remove items from a playlist folder (either by deleting or by moving to another folder), all items stay inside and accompany their containing folder wherever you put it. In that respect, iTunes playlist folders work just like folders on Mac and Windows.

Short of permanently deleting a playlist or smart playlist, you can either move it to another folder, or moving back to the root - where it came from, outside any folder. To move a playlist from one folder to another, simply drag the playlist with your mouse, and drop it above the new, destination folder.

To remove a playlist from a folder: drag the playlist (or smart playlist) leftwards, until iTunes blinks its left border and the cursor changes appearance; at that point, release the playlist, which will now be directly inside Playlists.

This 100% fixed the problem for me, which was that scrolling in album mode was sluggish. I think the problem arose when I moved my entire library to be shared by multiple users but then moved it back to my personal user name folder. THANK YOU!!

A little-known feature introduced back in iTunes 9 is a special folder named Automatically Add to iTunes, located within your iTunes library. By placing content into this folder rather just dragging content into the app, you can save both time and disk space when wanting to import media into iTunes.

By default, the iTunes library is located at /Music/iTunes. Within this folder are a number of files related to the iTunes database and the main folder containing all of its media, named either iTunes Media or iTunes Music (the naming is synonymous and simply depends on how long ago you started your iTunes library).

Mixxx reads metadata from the tracks to fill the columns of thelibrary. Double-click on a field, edit the data, and hit Enter when youare done. Go to the chapter edit metadata fordetailed information.

The Hidden Tracks view is accessible by expanding the Library tree item inthe sidebar. Any tracks that were previously loaded into your library but werelater set to be hidden from the library will appear here. Use theHide from Library context menu item in thetracks view to temporarily hide selected tracks.

Mixxx reads relevant metadata from the tracks and displays them in thelibrary columns. You are free to edit most metadata, and Mixxx offers a numberof different ways to do so. Note that some information can not be edited, suchas bitrate, size, length, type, filename, and location.

Using the Quick Links sub-menu you can bookmark folders for directaccess. Click the Browse sidebar item and navigate to the folder youwould like to bookmark. Right-click and choose Add to Quick Links. The folder is now pinned below the Quick Links. To un-pin thatfolder, right-click and choose Remove from Quick Links.

The external library views allow you to use music libraries you have createdin these third-party applications. You can access music as well as playlists. Ifavailable, Mixxx automatically loads the external libraries from their defaultlocations on your hard drive.

Removing tracks from the Mixxx library will not physically delete them fromyour drive. However it does delete extra metadata Mixxx might have (such ashotcues and the beatgrids), and removes links to playlists or crates.

Apple has replaced iTunes with Music, Podcasts, Books, and Apple TV with the release of macOS Catalina. Finder is the new place to back up, update, or restore your devices. But, if your Mac's running macOS Mojave or later, you can still use iTunes. Now, let's see how you can remove old iOS software updates from your Mac.

Instead of looking for iOS software updates on your Mac manually and making decisions about what files you want to delete or leave untouched, you can take advantage of CleanMyMac X. Launch it, hit Scan, and then Clean, and the app will clean your Mac from unneeded data cluttering your system, Trashes and iPhoto library (if you have one), including outdated iOS software updates. 2ff7e9595c
